Fix ?m=1 canonical, Indexing & Redirect Errors on Blogger
Writer: Exponect Team
On
Blogger platform, ?m=1 is a parameter that is automatically connected or added a
the end of your URL when a user visits your site or blog using a mobile.
Alternate
page with proper canonical tag error occurs in blogger only. It does not appear
in WordPress.
Why ?m=1 Appears in Blogger
Blogger
supports mobile version.
If
you have set up blog on blogger ( Google product) and someone visit your blog
using his mobile then Google will get a signal of ?m=1 that mentions that some
users used mobile and Google search Console will show ?m=1 either with your domain or with your blog
post.

Alternate page with proper canonical tag in your Google Search Console (GSC).
sometimes,
your post is not indexed on Google.
The
indexing is delayed.
What is Alternate page with proper canonical tag?
This
message is actually a good sign, not a problem.
Reason:
Google
finds two links for the same post: one normal URL and another with ?m=1.
Solution:
Your
Blogger site automatically tells Google that the normal URL is the original
page, while the ?m=1 version is only an alternate version of it.
Result:
Google
excludes the ?m=1 page from indexing to avoid duplicate content issues. “Proper
canonical tag” means Google accepted this instruction and correctly identified
the main page.

?m=1 and Redirect issues and SEO Impact
Sometimes,
you receives redirect error in blogger Search Console due to ?m=1.
Google
?m=1 and Page with redirect
This
usually happens because of the ?m=1 parameter.
Reason in Blogger Redirect with ?m=1
When
Google’s crawler checks your website, it sometimes visits the mobile version
(?m=1) and sometimes the desktop version (without ?m=1).
Process:
Since
Blogger creates two versions of the same post URL one for mobile and other for
Desktop. So, Blogger automatically “redirects” from one URL to another. Google
notices this redirect and labels it as “Page with redirect.” It does not index
URL with ?m=1 because it only wants to index the main page without ?m=1.
As
a result, blogger or content creator faces delayed in indexing
Solution:
You
don’t need any manual action. Blogger handles all these issues automatically
you
can use validate technique in GSC.
Submit Sitemap in Blogger:
A
common reason for delayed indexing is that Google discovers your posts through
the mobile links (?m=1) before it finds the main links (desktop). You can fix
this by providing a clean sitemap in Google Search Console.
In
GSC, submit Sitemaps and optimize it with.
https://www.exponect.com/sitemap.xml
if
you are using subdomain then use
https://www.exponect.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml
Manually Request Indexing
If
you have a new post that is not indexed, don't wait for the
"Validation" to finish.
Copy
the Main URL (the desktop version) of your new blog post URL.
Paste
it into the URL Inspection bar at the top of GSC.
Click Request Indexing.
This
submits a request to Google to review the primary version of your post URL
immediately, which can help speed up indexing.
Don’t changes Robots.txt keep it on Default
